Green Matters Magazine Article Review: Why Sustainability is Important – For the Earth and For Our Children
Because I feel so passionate about environmental sustainability and being environmentally friendly in general, I often find myself watching documentaries and reading magazines which cover these subjects. In particular, I really enjoy reading the content put out by Green Matters. Their magazine articles are extremely insightful, and I find them very helpful.
Green Matters, who have been around since 2017, are a company that emphasizes sustainability. For me, that’s a big thing. Over the years, they’ve put out a number of magazine articles and posts looking at sustainability, climate change, and other similar topics. There’s one article, though, that I found especially useful, and it’s this article I’m going to look at in more detail today.
Published in June 2024, titled ‘Why Sustainability is Important – For the Earth and For Our Children’ it really opened my eyes and highlighted the urgency of sustainable living greater than ever.
Understanding How Easy Sustainability Can Be
One thing I really enjoyed about this particular article is the fact that it explained sustainability in a simple, yet very effective way. It looks at what it means to be sustainable, as well as different ways of being sustainable that a lot of people probably didn’t even consider.
For example, it mentions how something as basic as using less single-use plastic is a great example of sustainable living. That essentially means that something as simple as using a refillable water bottle or coffee cup, means that you’re being sustainable, even without realizing.
I think that’s great as the more people realize how easy it is to incorporate sustainable practices into everyday life, the more of an effort they will make to continue doing so. More importantly still, they’ll be more likely to encourage others to do the same.
The Urgency of Sustainability
The main reason why I chose this article to write about, though, is because it highlights the urgency of sustainability.
Green Matters cut straight to the chase when talking about the urgency of sustainability, and they don’t hold back. The article focuses on why sustainability is important for future generations, for animals and wildlife all over the world, and even for our own economies.
I really like the fact that they highlight the economic importance of sustainability, as I feel it will motivate more corporate bodies to step up their sustainable practices. As many large businesses are driven purely by profit and corporate greed, if sustainability means they’ll make more money, they’re more likely to implement more sustainable practices into their day-to-day operations.
For me, though, what really hammered home the urgency of sustainability, was the fact that the article highlights how a lack of sustainability could literally kill us. There’s a lot of talk about fossil fuels lately, yet the article mentions how not only is burning fossil fuels contributing towards global warming, but it’s also polluting the air we breathe and is killing people.
The article mentions how moving away from fossil fuels and instead focusing on renewable energy is so important, and I agree with everything Green Matters say. We have apps on our phones telling us the quality of the air we breathe because of rising pollution levels. People are suffering from asthma, COPD, and other respiratory problems because there’s so much smog and pollution in the air and it could all be reduced massively if we committed to renewable energy instead of living in the past.
Fossil fuels are not finite and like it or not, reserves are depleting. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so either way, renewable energy is the future.
